Installing 64bit AutoCAD 2010 on Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 64bit

Your 64bit AutoCAD 2010 was never designed to run in Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 64bit (these versions of Windows are newer than AutoCAD 2010) – you may see random crashing, hanging on startup and/or slow performance…

NOTE: If you are running VBA macros in AutoCAD and they are running extremely slowly, you can gain up to 1000x better performance by installing the 32bit version of AutoCAD 2010 on 64bit Windows

In order for your AutoCAD 2010 to run as it did in previous versions of Windows, you need to follow these easy steps…

NOTE: These steps do not bypass normal Autodesk licensing/authorization, you should expect to use your own serial numbers in the normal way.

  1. Obtain your copy of the Longbow Converter here
  2. Install your 64bit AutoCAD 2010 as normal.
  3. Once the installation process is complete, close the setup program then start our Longbow Converter software
    1. Select the 3rd tab named “Old AutoCAD Program Reviver
    2. Pick the “…” button to select newly installed C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2010 folder
    3. then click “Fix Old Program”
  4. Now you can happily run your AutoCAD 2010 64bit on Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 64bit.

Troubleshooting:

– if your AutoCAD hangs on startup (stuck at the “Checking License…” message, try installing the 32bit version of AutoCAD 2010 on 64bit Windows – we’ve actually found the 32bit AutoCAD 2010 running on 64bit Windows is much more stable and actually faster than the 64bit version of AutoCAD 2010.

– If you are unable to activate your product, or the activation process crashes:

Opening AutoCAD DWG file gives “Drawing File was created by an incompatible version” message

If you are trying to open a DWG file with AutoCAD and you get the message “Drawing File was created by an incompatible version” it’s because somewhere along the line your AutoCAD DWG files were saved with a newer version of AutoCAD.

All is not lost, you can make them open again in your version of AutoCAD, you just need to download the free DWGTrueView App from Autodesk – http://www.autodesk.com/products/dwg/viewers

Once installed, start DWGTrueview and open the DWG file in question, then save as making sure to select the lowest DWG file version that matches your version of AutoCAD.
